"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
~Proverbs 22:15As a parent, this is one of my favorite passages in The Word of God.
When I was struggling as a young parent, I didn't understand parenting skills except to make sure the kids were clean, fed and has a roof over there heads. I thought I was doing a very good job! I was taking them to church (some), had 3 jobs and a nice house. I thought we were living the American dream.
Then God gave me a reality check.
At the age of 30 I had a mental melt down and I ended up in a metal hospital for about 6 weeks. I lost the kids to child protective services for almost 2 years as a
result. I lost the cars, the house, my job and my marriage.
So why do I tell you this? I tell you this because the way my parents trained me up as a child, I went back to. You see I was raised up in the church and I
knew if I called on the name of Jesus he would bring me out…and He did!
This one of my favorite passages because the knowledge it gives me. It lets me know and understand that the things I do for and teach my children
will
come into play in their lives one day. Teaching The Word of God, teaching them how to pray and teaching them to know that if they can't count on me or their mother or another soul on Earth, there is a loving Heavenly Father who is
always there.
"When my father and my mother forsake me, then the lord will take me up."
